My boyfriend's gallery was recently updated with all of his portfolio work. He's not totally comfortable with using DA, but you should visit his gallery and watch him! He's a really kick ass character artist!!

Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 19, 2012, 11:18 AM

Hey All!

Finally after months of stress, lawyers, money and time...I'm finally moved in to my new apartment in Seattle. For those who don't know, my last apartment was found to be uninhabitable because of mold and making my roommates and I sick. We were able to break the lease, but it took about a month to find a place and get ready for our move.

I've been living with my parents for a month, commuting a very long way to work while having very intense deadlines for said work. (That being said I got up, spent forever in the car, went to work, spent forever in the car, and then went back to sleep.) I now have the freedom of time that I can get back to art (and that means finishing up the commissions that helped me through my awful moldpocalypse!)

Our new place is wonderful, we have lots of office space for art, and a great view of downtown seattle and the space needle from our porch. My cat loves it because of the amount of little birds that live in the trees near the apartment, and she also has tons of space to run and explore!

Thanks everyone for your support!

Moldy Grossness

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 2, 2012, 9:51 AM

I don't upate my journal very much, but plan to do so in the near future. I might be doing weekly updates, probably on Sundays or Mondays, just talking about random things that are on my mind. For now though, I want  to give an update on some ass-hattery that's been happening to me as of late.

For the past few months I've been suffering from a weakened immune system, since what I had recently changed was that I was a vegetarian, I decided to go back to eating meat. This did not help me, and every night I'd be coughing and hacking, with a runny nose and headache. When my boyfriend started getting dizzy and having respiratory issues, and I noticed it got worse when I stepped into our house, I realized it was environmental. We looked around and found mold under our bed, and in our roommates room, both mildew and mold all up his wall (where furniture had been blocking it). We automatically left the apartment with our cat in tow, because we no longer wanted to hurt our health. We went to the doctor very soon after, and found that both my roommate and I had decreased lung strength. Both my roommate and I were prescribed inhalers, and told to see allergists. We told our landlord, who looked at it and told us it was an issue, and was going to clean it up very soon.

After cleaning it up and sending an inspector, we found that minimal mold was growing on the walls, and most mold was in our things, it thankfully wasn't the black mold that can cause serious health problems, though I do think I was extremely sensitive to whatever was in our apartment. Right now, we're in the clean up process and trying to find out WHY this happened. I've been out of my apartment for a week living in a hotel with my cat, but my health has improved a lot.

I've definitely learned a lesson, and I will never move into an apartment without a proper ventilation system in washington state. lol

Today is my birthday(I'm 22!), so I thought I might use this day as an excuse to come out of the woodwork and make a DA journal.
I haven't been very active at all since last year, I think I've only had 9 deviations since then, most of them being from my job.  A lot of my inactivity has been because I'm getting used to being employed as an artist and then coming home and doing more drawing (on top of that, cooking, cleaning, hanging out with friends, etc). However I'm getting better at forcing myself to draw, and will hopefully have more to share here in the next few months.

For the next month I'm going to be participating in NaNoMango, which is 30 comic sketch pages in 30 days. I'm using this as a jumping off point in order to start a comic project I've tried to get off the ground in the past, but failed because of the crazy amount of time college ate up. And while the game industry eats up no less time, I'm able to use weekends to my advantage and get things done. :)
If you guys would like to follow my progress, I will be posting my pages in my livejournal account: has not been updated since 2009 as of now).

I hope you guys have a good one! I always feel really weird writing journals, so hopefully I can get more in the zone of writing journals if I do them weekly or something. I just need to think about what to write. :o
If there is anything you'd like me to journal about, or you find interested in reading, please comment! Having journal prompts would be AMAZING.

Hello all!

It's been a while since I've updated my journal. I'd thought I'd talk about what's currently going on in my life (if you are interested that is.

Last semester I got an internship at a small iphone company making art for games. I was really excited to get the position, and I've been loving the work I've been doing there. A while ago, I shipped my first update of the game I've been working on with my art in it (I did the splash pages)

So check it out if you have an iPhone/Pad/Pod (it's free to download!)…

I've also been working at getting myself ready for graduation, updating my portfolio, and getting ready for the Game Developer's Conference at the end of the month! I'm really excited to get out there and network with other game developers and have lots of fun in San Fran.

For now, I need to be working on my portfolio, but I'm lazy. All I want to do is start oil paintings and colored pencil drawings...which won't really get me a job... T_T;;;

Anyway, Happy valentines day!

Commissions: Slots filled, check back later! I'm currently working on commissions, message me for a progress update!

Suddenly life has become incredibly busy!

In the next few weeks I will be running around like a chicken with his head cut off. I'm currently in a large transition period in my life. First, my 21st birthday is a week and a half. It's exciting, but I also have school and work to think about. I'm currently starting and ending an internship at the same time. I will basically have another 2 weeks of working 2 jobs while I go to school full time. T_T

However, I'm excited for my new job. I'll be working in Seattle at a game company as an art intern. I'm already very excited to be working in the game industry. FINALLY! It's really a big step for me in my career.

Hopefully soon I will fall into a routine that will be more comfortable for me. :)

Thanks to everyone for all of the comments and favs in the past few weeks! I've been pretty busy, so it's hard to keep up with them, but I do read and appreciate each and every one!

I need to get better at commenting on DA...T_T;;

Anyway, I'm going to be off to Hawaii for around 10 days! It's been around 15 years since I've been to Hawaii (I lived there when I was a little girl) and I'm really excited to go back, even if it isn't to the island that I lived on. I have some work to finish before I go though. *draws*

I plan on keeping a sketch journal of my travels while I'm there, so look forward to an update on my gallery of all my adventures on the big island. :)

Also, I will be open to fan art sketch requests , since I will have lots of down time during my stay. Feel free to post your requests here!

I had a really cool thing happen today!

A few weeks ago I went to a Zynga company day at my school. They were pretty cool, and they had a drawing for a netbook, but the netbook hadn't arrived in the mail yet. So they said they would do the drawing later and pick someone who had signed the guestlist.

I got an e-mail saying that I got it! Woot! So now I have this awesome little netbook to play with!
Hey everyone! Merry Christmas!

CHristmas is always a big holiday during the year, since my mom's birthday is on Christmas Eve, and we spend a lot of time with family. So far it's been fun!
I got a lot of things that I wanted (DS OMGYESSS)and was able to spend more time with my family than I usually do.
Sadly, Christmas has had a sad air to it since my grandfather isn't here. He suffered a stroke last night (Christmas night), he's doing alright, but is spending the holiday in the hospital. :(

So, how was everyone's Christmas? Get/Give something cool? What type of traditions did you do? Etc...
I don't usually review movies. Whenever I go to a movie I usually either love it or make fun of it, and don't really have a strong opinion about it. However, and a disney kid, I was anticipating The Princess and the Frog since it was announced that disney was going back to it's 2D roots.

I haven't seen a new 2D disney movie since high school, when I was completely obsessed with memorizing every single song from every single movie. The only thing I really got out of having all of those songs in my head is challenging my roommates to name a song and me sing it. HAHA

I think the high school Caitlyn would have goggled The Princess and the Frog up. It really stayed true to the classic disney films. The animation was perfect, the layouts were beautiful, the characters were strong. And I think this was where I was lost.

I know the target audience for this film was little girls, but I found myself being unimpressed by the perfection of the film. I have seen this before, I know what's going to happen. The art, while beautiful, didn't inspire me with it's creativity. The character designs were poor at some times, and seemed to follow a disney blueprint. I found myself loving tiana and hating all of the secondary characters (as always).

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed myself. But I found myself in a comfort zone, rather than watching a film that was truly inspiring such as The Incredibles, Nocturna, or Brendan and the Secret of Kells.
It was so clean, almost sterile, unlike some of my disney favorites like sleeping beauty and the Jungle Book.

I don't know if anyone else felt this way. I just found myself being lead around by disney as it said "HEY LOOK, WE DID THIS PERFECTLY. WE STILL ROCK THE 2D WORLD" And we no buying it as much as I would have when I was in high school.

ANyone else have opinions on the movie? Disney? And 2D animation?
I'm using my journal as a boring to-do list, so I can get focused on what I need to get finished and finish it already. It's the end of the semester and I'm very close ot being done with my classes. Now, I just need to attack my classes and see what I can get done. I also will do a list for my winter break as well, since there is no rest for an animation major. TAT

Before I go on to my list, I went to a wonderful festival the other day. It's Seattle's 2-D or not 2-D festival, put on by my professor, Tony White. It took place at the science center in Seattle (next to the space needle) and was amazing. I was only there for the last half, but OH MY GOD. We got to watch the movie, The Secret of Kells, an Irish film that was AMAZING. The designs were so beautiful, and so was the animation. You can check out the website here: … creators were also there, and said that they started the movie in their last year in college in 1999, and it took them ten years to work through their ideas, get it into production and finish it. I was so inspired. This is why I'm an animator.

And on to my boring list:

This semester:

-Finish final animation (plus animation, make flame for candle, play with render settings, render)
-Finish production bible for next semester (re-work storyboards, add more art, go to kinkos and get it printed)
-Finish environment for next semester (Finalize textures, Matte Painting, Paint skydome, make textures less green O__o)
-Put work for Layouts class in the folder so I don't fail

Winter Break:
-Model and texture Gilroy…
-Model and texture a golf ball and putter
-Work on paintings
-Figure out what I'm doing for senior year, plan a project with :iconlukedodge:
-Get sleep schedule back on track!
